Johnson, Myra Stevenson
1908-1984

Born in May 1908, she was educated at Hanson Girls' Grammar School, Bradford and Leeds University. She taught in Chatham and Blackburn before becoming headmistress of the East Anglian School for Girls in September 1940. In 1949 she became Principal of Southlands College at a time of post-war refurbishment and extension. She retired in 1965 to nurse her step-mother in Tunbridge Wells, where she became a governor of Kent College, Pembury. In 1972 she married the widowed Harold Roberts. She died on 26 April 1984.

Myra Johnson had three older brothers: Rayner Carey Johnson became Principal of the Methodist Queen's College, Melbourne; Leslie Wade Johnson was head of Shebbear College; William Arnold Johnson was a Cambridge-educated mathematician and a mechanical and civil engineer.
